Associate Director – Community Engagement & Hoover Campus

This position serves to support the mission of Element Student Ministry, which is to reach everyone for Christ, to connect with other Christians, to grow in our faith, to serve those in need, and to honor God with our lives. This role will have three primary focuses. 

Director of Student Ministries, Hoover Campus: Providing leadership for student ministry programming and serves as a visible, relational presence within the Hoover community. This role partners closely with campus and student ministry leadership to cultivate meaningful connections and sustainable growth.

Communications (at-large) for Element Student Ministry: Drafting, Creating, and Scheduling all digital and print media, social media, and communications systems.

Community Engagement: Maintaining and Developing Programs that create pathways into our student ministry and church, such as Element Cafe, our free middle school after school program, currently reaching over 100 students per week. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead student ministry programming at the Hoover Campus on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and participate in Sunday night programming at the Homewood Campus.
  • Build relationships with students, parents, and volunteers.
  • Partner with the Hoover Campus Pastor, Operations Director, and campus leadership.
  • Engage with local schools and community partners.
  • Participate in student events and campus life beyond weekly programming.
  • Support systems and structures that encourage long-term growth and engagement.
  • Lead all student ministry communications, including email, text messaging, and digital platforms.
  • Draft and send weekly communications to parents and students regarding programming, events, and registrations.
  • Oversee social media planning, content creation, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with other ministry teams to ensure consistent messaging across the church.
  • Maintain and Develop New and Current Programs that seek to create pathways of engagement for students that are not already part of our ministry and church community. 
  • Support and Participate in all retreats and trips throughout the year as assigned. 
  • All Other Duties As Assigned.

Desired Skills

  • Competency working with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Apple, and Google Drive plus the ability to learn new software. 
  • Competency working with programs such as Photoshop, Canva, and all current and emerging social media platforms. 
  • Proficiency in writing and conveying key information in a succinct format for email distribution. 
  • Organizational skills, including the ability to independently meet deadlines and manage weekly tasks.
  • Effective verbal communication skills to handle conflict, lead in worship, and socialize with students, parents, and adult volunteers.
  • Collaborative attitude and capacity to work with the Element Student Ministry team to complete tasks. 
  • Desire to grow spiritually and model Christ-like behaviors and habits for students. 
  • Support occasional special services or events as needed (as schedule allows).
  • A strong work ethic and consistent desire toward team participation and self-awareness skills. 
  • An appreciation for the doctrine and practices of the United Methodist Church
  • Recruitment, training, and discipleship of volunteer teams.
  • Willingness to invest in congregational and community life of the Trinity Hoover Campus.
