Community Ministry Director – Terence Mayo

Dear CYMT Family,

I am honored and humbled to join the Center for Youth Ministry Training (CYMT) and lead the organization in community-based ministries. As the new Community Ministry Director, I believe that we are all responsible for creating beloved communities that allow all people to experience the love of God and be seen in the fullness thereof. CYMT is a beautiful community of leaders who are asking the tough questions and engaging in critical inquiry to help form & support Christian communities.

As I step into this role, I want to introduce myself and share a bit about my background and vision for our Public Ministry work. My professional experiences are in education, public theology, and social impact.  I have worked in both P-12 and higher educational roles in various departments in both administrative and student-facing positions. I have led school and organization-wide initiatives related to Anti-racist pedagogies and policies, DEIB, staff & student development, and school-community partnerships. As a public theologian, I have worked with numerous congregations, faith-based organizations, and theological education institutions. I have served as a fellow with the Institute for Policy Studies, Pacific School of Religion, Vanderbilt University Divinity School, and Howard University.

I am excited to lead this work because narratives, reflection, and dialogue provide unique opportunities to create more equitable and affirming communities. I look forward to using these tools to examine and construct resources for Christian families and congregations that need support having conversations about faith with their children.  Also, I look forward to building programmatic offerings that equip leaders for ministry in community-based organizations and multicultural church ministries. Lastly, I intend to create a network of Angelic Troublemakers innovating theologically informed ministries that center marginalized communities’ strengths and potentials.

I hope to work with you – our residents, alums, and coaches– to carry on our mission and expand our impact. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you soon. Please feel free to connect with me at terence@cymt.org with any questions or just to say hello!

Thank you for your continued support of CYMT and our mission.

Warm Regards,

Rev. Terence Mayo (he/him)
