Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, a Reconciling in Christ congregation located in Bellingham, WA is seeking a dynamic and passionate Children, Youth and Family Minister to lead and oversee the vision, development, implementation and administration of programs and activities that inspire the children, youth, and their families so they may experience Christ Jesus through a community of worship, service, community relationships and learning.
Our ideal candidate has a good understanding of Lutheran theology, children and youth development and faith formation experience, a willingness to engage with the issues and concerns facing youth and families, and the ability to lead multiple programs while meeting a variety of needs. The position also requires a commitment to foster a vibrant faith community through a cultivation of service, curiosity, openness and understanding God’s Love that guide and support the faith journey of young people and their families.

• Witness, Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to youth, integrating them into the full life of the church, and welcome the strengths and challenges of each child.
• Mission and Vision Planning: Work closely with the Pastor and Children and Youth Committee to evolve vibrant and engaging Children, Youth and Family programs.
• Connection and Relationships: Build strong relationships with current and prospective children, youth, and families, understand their needs, and provide resources and support.
• Development and Coordination of Children, Youth and Family Programs: Develop and coordinate programs for children, youth, and their families that nurture and grow our children and youth into the life of our congregation: cultivating relationships, exploring faith in word and worship, and serving the community, encompassing our RIC & Anti-Racism commitments. Take an active role to lead weekly chapel services and support Catch the Son Preschool programming.
• Coordination and Supervision of Staff and Volunteers: Provide supervision, training, support, and regular evaluation of childcare assistant staff. Recruit and equip adult volunteers.
• Administrative Duties: Maintain records, assist with budgets, coordinate schedules, conduct background checks and manage communication through various platforms.
• Professional and Program Development: Participate in continuing education opportunities, learn and grow to expand children, youth and family ministry knowledge, and identify opportunities that will aid in the development of programs that are relevant and speak to the needs of the CTS community.
• Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree or certification in Children, Youth and/or Family Ministry is desired.
• 3+ years’ experience in outdoor ministry, youth ministry, education, or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of Lutheran theology and the ELCA.
• Experience leading, volunteering or working with people of marginalized communities including LGBTQIA+; belonging to a Reconciling in Christ congregation or other congregation which creates a place of intentional welcome.
• Understanding of personal development of early childhood through young adult development (spiritual, emotional, physical).
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead, recruit and train staff and volunteers.
• Godly Play experience, or willingness to be trained.
• Ability to pass a background screening.
Position: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Hourly Wage: $26.44 – $28.85 DOE/DOQ
