Job Summary

Description

  • Be the face of Children & Family Ministries by interacting with the church community at large
    through weekly worship and other fellowship opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for families to gather in community and support of one another.
  • Work with Lead Pastor, Discipleship Coordinator, and Teen Ministry Director to create cohesive
    discipleship opportunities throughout the entire church.
  • Serve as connection point and resource for Medina Weekday Preschool, a ministry of Medina
    UMC. Work with MWP Director to foster a cooperative relationship.
  • Recruit, nurture, and equip a team of adult and teen leaders who will assist in carrying out the
    vision of Children & Family Ministries
  • Establish goals and regularly evaluate effectiveness of programming.
  • Remain current on best practices in Christian faith formation through professional development
    such as attending conferences, workshops, etc. as time and budget permit.
  • Serve as resource for Vortex (4th-6th grade youth group) and church camping programs.
  • Oversee organization and decoration of Sunday School hall and rooms, informing Trustees of
    room and equipment needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Nursery Coordinator
    • Oversee and equip the Nursery Coordinator so s/he can effectively do his/her job
    • Ensure Nursery care for all special services
    • Oversee nursery volunteers for Sunday morning and small groups as needed
  • Sunday morning children’s ministry opportunities
    • Coordinate Kids in Faith (Sunday School)
    • Work with 9:00 small groups to ensure children’s needs are met.
    • Recruit, train, and support volunteer team.
  • Safe Sanctuary (Child Protection Policy) & Background Checks
    • Serve as the church’s coordinator for Safe Sanctuary (Child Protection Policy) and background checks.
    • Manage the volunteer intake process including the completion of applications, background
      check authorization forms, checking references, and conducting background screenings.
    • Annually review the church’s Child Protection Policy to ensure compliance with the East Ohio
      Conference Safe Sanctuary guidelines and recommendations.
  • Children’s ministry opportunities outside Sunday morning
    • Coordinate mid-week growth opportunities for children.
    • Coordinate an annual Vacation Bible School or some such summer children’s outreach.

    • Bachelor’s or advanced degree, preferably in related field
    • Committed to Medina UMC’s vision, mission, and goals
    • Experience in having built and grown an engaging children’s program
    • Able to lead and plan programming, mobilizing, and utilizing teams of servant volunteers
    • Possess a highly relational approach to ministry
    • Serve with enthusiasm as a member of a Christ-centered, mission-driven team that is committed
      to serving as the hands and feet of Christ.
    • Able to travel
    • Recognition of the signs of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect, as well as the appropriate method for reporting such instances.
    • Current safety & first aid certification.
    • Ability to respect confidentiality and deal skillfully with sensitive information Skills
    • Love of children and parents, and ability to connect with parents via current technologies
    • Effective verbal communication in one-on-one and large group settings
    • Effective written communication.
    • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
    • Good interpersonal skills and active listening ability
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Current and active, valid driver’s license and required insurance
    • Strong computer and technology skills including social media
    • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer programs

$45,000-$50,000
