DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MINISTRIES

PURPOSE: To collaborate with the Christian Education Committee and the Session to plan and implement an effective, integrated educational ministry for Grace Presbyterian Church. This includes overseeing and resourcing the Christian education which is offered from infants to adults, including the nursery, children’s ministry, youth programs and adult education. Finally, to ensure that all educational programs are aligned with the church’s mission and Reformed theology.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff and ultimately, the Session through the Christian Education and Personnel Committee.
Note: the Director of Christian Education will serve as an ex-officio member of the CE Committee and collaborate closely with the Minister of Music
STATUS: part-time; non-exempt; 15 hr.wk

Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Development & Oversight
• Develop and implement existing and new curricula for preschool through adult education programs, submitting them for annual Session approval.
• Serve as the key resource for the Sunday School and midweek LOGOS program, overseeing recruitment, training, and curriculum selection for teachers and volunteers.
2. Children’s Youth Ministry
• Oversee all aspects of Children’s Ministry from infants to 12th grade, including nursery care, Sunday School, LOGOS, and Vacation Bible School.
• Lead curriculum and instruction for middle school and high school.
• Recruit and maintain volunteer staff, ensuring they are trained and equipped to lead effectively.
3. Adult Education Support
• Provide resources and curriculum choices for adult education classes upon request.
• Serve as a consultant and guide for adult education leaders in program development.
4. Program Coordination & Training
• Coordinate the educational ministries of the church, ensuring all programs (children, youth, and adult) operate smoothly and are integrated into the church’s larger mission.
• Organize and lead teacher and leadership training sessions to equip volunteers across all educational ministries.
• Plan or assist in planning CPR training for Childcare Team
5. Communications & Promotions
• Write a monthly column for the church newsletter (Gracenotes) and create promotional materials for educational programs (e.g. newsletters, social media, signage, and website updates).
• Attend weekly staff meetings and collaborate with the church’s leadership team to ensure alignment between educational and broader church goals.
6. Administrative Duties
• Maintain background checks for all volunteers with children and youth and provide Ministry Safe training regularly for all volunteers.
• Coordinate supplies and materials for teachers and manage educational resources.
• Prepare and submit reports to the Session as needed.
• Maintain background checks for all volunteers working with children and youth Provide Ministry Safe training every 3 years for all volunteers.
7. Professional Development
• Participate in continue Learning: engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest educational tools, strategies, and theological resources. This includes:
o Attending relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars
o Participating in online courses, webinars, or other training opportunities in Christian education and leadership.
• APCE Conference: If possible, attend the annual Association of Partners in Christian Education GATHERING. This provides:
o Networking opportunities with peers in Christian education.
o Exposure to new curricula, teaching techniques, and ministry innovations.
o Resources and ideas that can enhance the church’s educational programs.
• Collaboration and Mentorship: Regularly collaborate with other ministry leaders and seek mentorship opportunities from experienced Christian educators or pastors to improve teaching and leadership skills.

Desired Skills

•Evident faith in Jesus Christ and a strong understanding of Reformed theology
•Regular attendance at worship services is expected.
•Experience in Christian education, ministry leadership or related fields
•A degree in education or theology is desirable but not required.
•Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple programs and lead volunteers effectively.
