Job Summary

Description

The Director of Children and Youth Discipleship will design and implement a program that allows God to make new and deeper disciples of Christ from birth to graduation from high school.  This position will be expected to include outreach and volunteer recruitment as part of their plan to put these ministries on a growth trajectory.  Our expectation is that within 2-3 years we would be able to hire an assistant to report to this position and support continued growth.

Responsibilities

Existing programs include:

  • Children
    • Weekly
      • Providing a staffed nursery on Sunday mornings for ages 0-5
      • Sunday School (single classroom for grades K-5) at 9am
      • Children’s Church during the second half of worship (5th grade and under)
    • Annual / periodic
      • Vacation Bible School (scheduled for 9am – 12pm the week of July 14th)
      • Parents’ Mornings Out (Saturdays)
      • Fall Festival (Sunday afternoon in September)
      • Children’s Sabbath (during a worship service in the fall)
      • Third Grade Bible class and presentation (4 Sundays during Sunday School)
    • Youth
      • Weekly
        • Sunday School (single classroom for grades 6-12) at 9am
        • Youth group Sundays from 4-6pm
      • Annual / periodic
        • Confirmation (meeting during Sunday School in the winter/spring; lock-in style retreat in late spring)
        • Youth Sunday (during a worship service in the fall)
        • Confirmation and Senior Sunday (during a worship service in the spring)
        • Fall and Spring weekend retreats
        • Youth service days
        • Wilderness Trail backpacking trip (scheduled for the week of July 7

Desired Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Personal commitment to being a follower of Jesus Christ and theology consistent with the beliefs of the United Methodist Church
  • Passion for youth ministry and a desire to grow youth-based programs
  • Commitment to growing a youth program and youth outreach ministries
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a church ministry position, preferably children or youth ministries
  • Ability to initiate new relationships
  • Ability to mentor others in the way of Jesus Christ and to train others for those mentoring relationships
  • Ability to make and maintain a budget for their program areas
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and cloud-based software
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Salary

$50,000 – $70,000

Benefits

  • Health insurance (after 90 days of employment); Central pays all but $1,500 toward individual health premiums
  • Health Savings Account (after 90 days of employment); Central contributes $96.16 per pay period into each HSA in the plan year
  • Retirement Plan (eligible on the first January 1st after 4 months of employment); Central contributes amount equal to 6% of gross wages
