Job Summary

Description

The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for leading and overseeing ministries related to children (preschool – 5th grade) and their families. This position involves collaboration, program development, overseeing children’s Christian education, volunteer coordination, and strategic vision to nurture children’s faith and involve families in meaningful missions. All ministry efforts will align with the church’s mission: making a difference by loving God and loving people.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Children’s and Family Ministry
    • Continue and innovate a comprehensive vision for the children’s ministry that nurtures the spiritual and personal growth of children from preschool through fifth grade.
    • Organize and coordinate Sunday morning education and occasional events that promote community and faith development.
    • Ensure that all programs are age-appropriate, Christ-centered, and grounded in sound biblical teaching.
    • Help children participate in the worship life of Old Mission
    • Select and order curriculum for children’s programs.
  2. Volunteer and Coordination
    • Recruit, train, and support volunteers, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
    • Foster a team-oriented atmosphere by providing leadership, encouragement, and support.
    • Work with appropriate staff and committees to facilitate communication and provide support in planning and implementing a year-round Christian education program for children.
    • Ensure that all adults who are involved in children’s ministry activities participate in the Safe Gatherings training.
    • Incorporate a mission component to the children’s ministry programming.
  3. Communication and Collaboration
    • Support parents in fostering their children’s faith at home.
    • Maintain relationships with families and adapt programs to meet their needs.
    • Collaborate with the wider church leadership to integrate children’s ministry objectives with overall church mission.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, volunteers, and church members, providing updates and opportunities for involvement.
  4. Other Responsibilities
    • Stay informed about new trends and best practices in children’s ministry.
    • Develop and manage the children’s ministry budget.
    • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, making improvements as needed.
    • Maintain attendance records and ensure appropriate teacher-to-student ratios.
    • Create an annual report
    • Attend staff meetings, Children’s Council, Leadership Team, and Church Council meetings.

Desired Skills

  • Strong Christian faith and a commitment to the vision and mission of the church.
  • Experience in children’s ministry, with proven leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage a diverse congregation.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple programs and volunteers effectively.
  • A degree in theology, education, or a related field is preferable but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in children’s ministry or related fields.
