Description

Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church (MAPC), a PC(USA) congregation located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, seeks a faithful, collaborative, and organized Director of Ministries for Children, Youth, and Young Adults. This role will help lead and strengthen MAPC’s ministry with young people and families through Christian education, fellowship, service, and community-building rooted in the Reformed tradition.

MAPC currently serves a small but active community of approximately 20–30 children, youth, and young adults through established programs, with strong potential for thoughtful growth. The Director will work closely with clergy, staff, volunteers, families, and the Children and Youth Ministries Committee to provide spiritual leadership, program coordination, volunteer support, and clear communication across ministries.

MAPC’s mission is to bring people into the transforming presence of Jesus Christ through worship, teaching the Word, Christian nurture, and ministry in and to the world. The congregation has a long tradition of excellence in worship, music, preaching, teaching, outreach, and service, and welcomes members from across New York City into a community of faith, learning, and grace.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Sunday morning children’s education and fellowship, including volunteer recruitment, training, supervision, curriculum support, and family communication.
  • Support children’s fellowship opportunities, including Families with Young Children gatherings, the Fall Block Party, Advent Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, and all-church fellowship events.
  • Supervise and assist with the Babies & Toddlers Playgroup, which meets Wednesday afternoons from October through May.
  • Lead youth education, fellowship, service opportunities, and confirmation programming in collaboration with staff and volunteers.
  • Collaboratively support young adult ministry, traditionally called 20s/30s, through Bible studies, fellowship events, service opportunities, and community-building.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, participants, staff, volunteers, and committees; attend staff and calendar meetings; support budgeting; maintain supplies; and incorporate best practices in ministry with young people.

Desired Skills

  • Deep commitment to Christian faith and nurturing faith in young people.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with children, youth, or young adults in ministry or a related setting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, parents, volunteers, young people, and the congregation.
  • Seminary students, recent graduates, and candidates pursuing an M.Div. in the Reformed tradition are encouraged to apply.

Salary

$50,000 – $80,000 + Housing

Benefits

  • This is a full-time exempt role. Annual cash salary is $50,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications. A modern, partially furnished 1BR/1BA apartment located in the Church House is available as part of the compensation package. The apartment offers the convenience of living in the heart of Manhattan while supporting the ministry’s presence within the church community. The cash salary is negotiable for candidates who do not need housing.
  • A $1,500 annual continuing education allowance will be provided.
  • Eligible employees receive medical insurance through the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
