Description

St. Paul’s seeks a Minister to Children and Families to join us in responding to the promise we make at every child’s baptism to do all in our power to support them in their life in Christ.

St. Paul’s has a long history of responding to this promise. We seek a leader who will honor this history and is excited to imagine and cultivate new ways to support and nurture the children (birth to 5th grade) and families of St. Paul’s.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and nurture relationships with the children and families of the parish.
  • By being present at the primary times, programs, and events when children and families are also present (Sunday mornings and major feasts and holidays of the Church, Wednesday evenings, Boo! in the Pews, Parish Retreat, Vacation Bible School, etc.).
  • By regular communication with families across various mediums (in-person, phone, email, bulletin announcements, newsletters, etc.).
  • By being pastorally available to families.
  • Support and equip parents in the spiritual development of their children at home with resources and materials (book and activity suggestions; seasonal offerings for Advent and Lent, etc.).
  • Plan and oversee the budget for Children and Family Ministries.
  • Select, develop, and adapt, as necessary, the curriculum for Children’s Formation on Sunday mornings for children pre-K through 5th grade and be present to lead and facilitate the curricula with the assistance of a robust team of volunteers.
  • Also, selection of curriculum and program, as well as leading and presence, for Vacation Bible School.
  • Design the Children’s Offering for Wednesday Nights.
  • Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers to work alongside you across all children’s programming (Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, Parish Retreat, Christmas Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.)
  • Ensure that all children’s staff and volunteers are Safe Church trained and serving in compliance with all Safe Church requirements for those who work with children.
  • Plan and lead the annual Christmas pageant.

In collaboration with staff and clergy:

  • Welcome new families to the parish and connect these families into the life and rhythms of the parish.
  • Prepare children and families for baptism.
  • Offer opportunities for parents and families to gather for fellowship and learning.
  • Integrate children and families into the full life of the parish (worship and music – children’s choir, formation, outreach, fellowship, etc.).
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Minister to Youth and Families for a cohesive program for children, youth, and families and the seamless movement of children into youth programs.
  • Plan yearly and seasonal parish events – and specifically plan for the children’s programming at such events (Parish Picnic, Celebration Sunday, Boo! in the Pews, Parish Retreat, etc.).

  • Be a follower of Jesus committed to their own baptismal promises to be active in worship, prayer, study, fellowship, and service.
  • Have a heart for children and experience and ease in being present to them.
  • Be welcoming and affirming of all families.
  • Possess a familiarity with the stories of Holy Scripture.
  • Have a maturity of mind and spirit.
  • Be a ready and easy collaborator.
  • Be a thoughtful, adept, and timely communicator.
  • Have experience and comfort in teaching children and also sharing easily with parents.
  • Have a command of classroom and group management.
  • Appreciate the importance of play and fun as a way of learning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in early childhood and / or education) or at least two years of relevant experience in a classroom or children’s ministry context.
  • Preference for membership in and / or deep familiarity with the Episcopal Church (its liturgy and theology).
