Description

Overview: The Community Ministry Program at the Ministry Leadership Center (MLC) equips leaders to meet the holistic (spiritual, physical, and social) needs of youth, children, and families within faith-based and faith-inspired community spaces by imploring a Two-Generation (2-Gen) model of community-based research and support that takes seriously the specific needs that arise within diverse families. We take seriously the need for culturally sustaining pedagogies, resources, tools, and supports that meet the needs of diverse families in the areas of theological dialogue and faith translation. We train faith and community leaders to identify and integrate services/supports that move the whole family forward, benefiting both children and the adult(s) in their lives.

Objective: To develop two-generation (2Gen) curricular theological educational course components and educational resources for the seminary classroom and virtual workshops that meet the needs of today’s youth and family leaders within our new Community Ministry curriculum area. They will use their expertise in curriculum development, pedagogical strategies, and subject matter knowledge to craft educational content that is both engaging and effective. This role involves collaborating with fellow experts, integrating feedback, and staying abreast of the latest subject matter trends and standards to ensure our curricula meet the highest quality and relevance.

Supervision: The Youth Community Ministry Curriculum Writer will report to the Community Ministry Director to accomplish grant objectives and contribute to the overall MLC vision.

Location: MLC is a remote working environment. Curriculum writers will meet with the director in person from July 24 to 26, 2025, and then complete the curriculum writing virtually.

 

Responsibilities

Results / Expectations:

  • Develop and write instructional materials and educational content, including syllabi, assignments, reading lists, and slide decks, that can be effectively utilized within a hybrid classroom setting. 
  • Research and incorporate current educational theories and instructional design principles.
  • Collaborate with educators and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Revise and update curriculum content in response to feedback and evolving educational standards.
  • Create materials that cater to various learning styles and educational needs.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate resources and materials for curriculum development.
  • Test and assess curriculum effectiveness through a peer-reviewed feedback process.
  • Integrate technology and multimedia resources into curriculum design.
  • Document and maintain records of curriculum development processes and updates.

Desired Skills

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of youth ministry experience in a church or non-profit setting
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field 
  • Master’s degree in theology or related field (preferred)
  • Experience writing and developing curriculum
  • Experience teaching and training ministry/community leaders
  • Demonstrated relational network and networking capabilities
  • Proven strong verbal and written persuasive communication skills
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with educational theories
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing educational requirements and feedback
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely fashion

  • Must attend the Writing Retreat held in Nashville, TN, from July 24th to July 26th. Travel will be taken care of by MLC.
