Weekly Summaries

Week 1 – Mental Health

A clip from a well-known movie will illustrate that different emotions (even the uncomfortable ones) are important for personal growth. This will create a dialogue for students and leaders to have a generative conversation about the topic of mental health in our current culture. The group will also see the humanity of Jesus as depicted in scripture and learn to care for their mental health using his example.

Week 2 – Depression

A challenging and frustrating activity will give students insight into some of the physical and mental limitations that depression can introduce. Students and leaders will listen to three readings and process their conversations around how depression is viewed and what God might have to say about it. *While this is not a full-scope discussion of depression, it does drill down into one facet to make it more accessible, as well as provide a safe place to discuss such a sensitive topic.

Week 3 – Anxiety

This lesson begins with a “low-stakes” fun activity.. As the activity unfolds, an element of competition will be introduced to create a level of performance anxiety. You’ll examine how expectations and the failure to meet them are deeply connected to feelings of anxiety. Students will be reminded that they never suffer alone and that God is a God of abundance.
