We are so excited to have partnered with Miguel Briones who is an author and immigration activist to write this series. This along with our partnership with Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Undocumented Stories project has created an enriched, grassroots resource grounded in the voices and stories of immigrants.
Your group will learn about Adrian. They will learn about what it is like for him to grow up in a family of undocumented people, and will learn about their challenges and choices as a result. In this part of his story, students hear about his experience of inviting a teacher into his lived reality as a person who is undocumented. Ultimately, your group will see the grace Adrian receives and also the grace he exhibits to others.
Relational conflict is messy and overwhelming. In this lesson, the game Flipart illustrates this struggle and how the process of working toward resolution can be messy. The goal is to remember that relationships are the heart of who God created us to be and that the work of reconciliation is worth it.
Your group will learn about Adrian’s journey through college. Students will see the tenacity he exhibits allowing him to make his way to a 4-year university. They will learn about a loss in the family and how his family’s status made it even more difficult. Adrian’s story of resilience will demonstrate hope as the ability to endure and yet be resilient).
In this final session, the focus moves from Adrian to us. This session closes with what he and many others need from all of us ending with a call to action. It asks how we move from being passive consumers of Adrian’s story to active participants. Students will learn about agency, recognizing the ability we all have to take an active role in participating in God’s ongoing reconciliation of the world.
