Position Description: Director of Family Ministries

To be Supervised and Evaluated by: Lead Pastor (direct supervision) in consultation with the BSUMC Leadership Board

Primary Job Description:
The Director of Family Ministries is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating programs for and with the children, youth (grades 6-12) and young adults of the church. They will also cultivate a unified vision for our ministry to young families. This position will work to improve the ministry for children, youth and families of the church in order to help each one grow in their knowledge and faith in God.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
● Plan, implement, and supervise engaging weekly children’s and youth activities that combine fun experiences with insightful, biblically based lessons
● Plan, implement, and supervise children’s/youth participation in mission trips, camps, and special events including confirmation classes
● Plan, implement, and supervise events for young adults that will promote participation and engagement in the church’s ministry and vision
● Embrace outreach. For example, attend games, concerts, and other events the youth are involved in as time allows
● Establish goals to increase attendance, participation, and spiritual growth of children, youth and young families to be shared with pastor and relevant church committees
● Supervise children’s ministry/nursery workers and volunteers to provide adequate staffing and childcare for weekly services, programs and special events
● Assemble and equip a base of adult volunteers to encourage the faith development and safety of children and youth and ensure volunteers have and maintain the Safe Gatherings certification
● Coordinate the necessary fundraising for children’s/youth group activities and manage the budget in conjunction with the Lead Pastor and Leadership Board
● Facilitate effective communication between children/youth, parents, church staff, and Lead Pastor on upcoming events
● Promote youth and children’s programming to the congregation and community, including providing articles/graphics for the bulletin and newsletter
● Serve as the administrator for church social media accounts. Post and reply on social media professionally as the voice of the church. Build a social media plan, create content and schedule posts as needed
● Assure the safety of those under your supervision is held in the highest regard
● Complete and maintain Safe Gatherings certification through the Great Plains Conference
● Maintain strict confidentiality

Qualifications:
● Prior experience and/or evidence of successful leadership with children and youth
● Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
● Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as conflict management skills
● Proven ability to work effectively with children, youth, families and teams of volunteers
● Must be tech savvy and comfortable with leveraging digital tools to enhance operational efficiency and effective communication
● Must be able to pass a background check and uphold the highest standards of Christian values

Salary

$17.30 to $19.25

Benefits

The Director of Family Ministries position is a part-time, 20-hour week position. We offer an hourly rate of $17.30 to $19.25, reflective of your experience and expertise.
