Description

Indian Run United Methodist Church in Dublin, Ohio is seeking to hire a full-time Youth Pastor to lead and coordinate our ministry to middle and high school youth (6th – 12th grade). Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) leadership of Sunday morning and Sunday evening youth activities, development of a school year-long confirmation program, coordination of mission experiences, and integration of youth into the overall ministry of the church.

Qualified candidates must have a passion for youth ministry, a heart that is aligned with our core values, the ability to develop meaningful relationships with youth, great communication skills (including use of technology and social media used by youth), outstanding organizational and leadership skills, and the ability to recruit and involve adult volunteers.

Responsibilities

Leadership responsibilities:

  1. Develop and champion a vision for Youth Ministry in alignment with the vision and mission of Indian Run
  2. Develop a team approach to Youth Ministry by recruiting, training, developing, and empowering volunteers (both adult and youth)
  3. Coordinate all Youth Ministry activities, including Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon/evening, mid-week, missions
  4. Develop, coordinate, and lead a school year-long confirmation program
  5. Select or develop curriculum that is consistent with United Methodist beliefs
  6. Increase participation in the Youth Ministry by the children of the church as well as the community at large
  7. Make connections with youth through attendance at special events in the lives of youth outside of church
  8. Ensure youth are incorporated into the overall ministry of the church
  9. Connect youth and their families to United Methodist Church conference and/or district events, activities or other opportunities (scholarships, internships, etc.)
  10. Work with Director of Children’s Ministries to support youth and families in their transition from Children’s Ministry to Youth Ministry
  11. Help youth make the transition to college and support the church’s ministry to college students

Administration responsibilities:

  1. Develop and manage annual budget for Youth Ministry
  2. Attend staff meetings and other church team meetings as needed.
  3. Meet with adult and youth leaders of Youth Ministry for program development and to provide training and resources
  4. Lead the annual review of the Safe Sanctuary Policy of IRUMC in conjunction with the Associate Pastor and Director of Children’s Ministry
  5. Ensure adherence to the Safe Sanctuary Policy throughout Youth Ministry, including training of volunteers as needed
  6. Communicate effectively with youth, adult leadership, and the congregation
  7. Manage inventory of instructional materials and supplies

Desired Skills

  • Spiritually grounded in Christian beliefs and passionate about Youth Ministry
  • Understanding of and willingness to teach United Methodist theology and doctrines
  • College degree and/or 4 years of experience in Youth Ministry
  • Ability to recruit and organize volunteers
  • Able to relate well with youth and adult leaders
  • Ability to understand middle school and high school age learning development characteristics
  • Organizational, communication, and team building skills
  • Ability to set goals, report on these goals, and to achieve goals
  • Competent with personal computers and the internet, especially social media used by youth
