The Director of Youth Ministry is the primary leader of a dynamic, Christ-centered ministry with middle and high school students at First Presbyterian Chruch Spartanburg. The full-time role is rooted in building meaningful relationships, fostering a deep sense of belonging, and nurturing faith through engaging programs, transformative retreats and mission experiences, and thoughtful teaching. The Director will partner with youth, families, and volunteers to cultivate a vibrant community of spiritual growth and discipleship. As part of a collaborative and creative staff team in a thriving congregation, the Direct of Youth Ministry will have the vision, support and flexibility to imagine bold new ways of connecting young people to the life and mission of the Church.
This position provides visionary leadership for our church’s youth ministry, guiding young people to experience the love of Christ, deepen their faith, and build lasting relationships rooted in God’s grace. The ideal candidate with demonstrate a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a wholehearted commitment to the mission and ministry of the Church. A strong sense of call to youth ministry is essential, along with a passion for sharing the gospel in ways that are both joyful and relatable. Candidates should bring strong relational, organizational, and entrepreneurial leadership skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Emotional maturity, personal integrity, and the capacity to assess needs and drive meaningful outcomes are critical to success in this role.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry, education or related field. Minimum two years of relevant experience in Christian ministry (may include a combination of work and volunteer).
Relationships: This position reports directly to Senior Pastor and has supervisory responsibility of the Youth Ministry Coordinator and directing the work of adult volunteers as needed. In coordination with the Youth Committee this position also seeks to support and promote the overall mission and vision of First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg as set by the Session.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Physical requirements include but may not be limited to: maintaining standing and sitting positions for extended periods, frequent handling of files, books, boxes of documents, keyboarding, operating a telephone, and other office equipment. Mental requirements include but may not be limited to: general math function, intermediate reading, advanced reasoning, advanced speaking ability, and advanced writing ability.
