Job Title: Family Ministry Director

The Family Ministry Director will lead and oversee faith formation programs for children (birth–5th grade), youth (6th–12th grade), and their families. The person holding this position nurtures spiritual growth, discipleship, and a sense of community while aligning with the mission and values of the United Methodist Church. The director collaborates with clergy, staff, volunteers, and families to foster an inclusive and Christ-centered ministry

Responsibilities

Children’s Ministry (Birth – 5th Grade):

  • Plan and implement Sunday School, Vacation Bible School (VBS), and seasonal events
  • Provide or oversee childcare during worship and special events.
  • Select and manage age-appropriate curriculum aligned with Wesleyan theology.
  • Equip parents to nurture faith at home.

Youth Ministry (6th – 12th Grade):

  • Organize regular youth group gatherings, Bible studies, retreats, and mission trips.
  • Provide mentoring and pastoral support for teens.
  • Prepare students for confirmation in collaboration with the pastor.
  • Encourage youth leadership in worship and service.

Family & Intergenerational Ministry:

  • Plan events that engage families in faith formation and fellowship.
  • Promote intergenerational connections in worship, service, and church life.
  • Provide resources and workshops to support parenting and faith practices at home.

Leadership & Administration:

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers for children and youth ministries.
  • Manage ministry budget and maintain clear records of attendance, participation, and safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry Safe policies (background checks, training, supervision).
  • Communicate regularly with families and the congregation via newsletters, emails, and social media.

Team Collaboration:

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and collaborate on churchwide initiatives.
  • Participate in worship planning and church leadership as needed.
  • Serve as a spiritual leader and role model within the congregation.

Desired Skills

Qualifications:

  • A strong and growing Christian faith aligned with United Methodist doctrine.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in children and/or youth ministry preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relational skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire volunteers.
  • Familiarity with Ministry Safe and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment for all children and youth.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Creativity, flexibility, and a heart for ministry.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to connect with diverse families.
  • Tech-savvy with social media and church communication tools.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:

  • Requires availability on Sundays, some evenings, and occasional weekends or trips.
  • May involve lifting supplies and setting up physical spaces.
  • Office space provided; hybrid work considered where appropriate.

15,000-25,000
