Description

The Director of Student Ministries is a full-time ministry position charged with connecting fifth through twelfth grade students by implementing a philosophy that is passionate about and accomplishes the following: recruiting, supporting, encouraging, coaching, nurturing, and developing students where they achieve a higher relationship with Christ and with one another. The goal for the Director of Pearland Student Ministries is to build and maintain a strong and robust, growing youth program at FUMC Pearland.

Responsibilities

The Director of Student Ministries will be responsible for:

  1. Modeling Biblical Priorities

Staff Leaders should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The Staff Leader models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). They strive to fulfill this purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships, and actions.

Staff leaders of FUMC Pearland are responsible for leading and modeling Biblical priorities, which is accomplished by:

  • Committing to a daily quiet time with God.
  • Participating in an FUMC Pearland Sunday School Class or Growth Group.
  • Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.
  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of FUMC Pearland employees, as defined by the Employee Handbook.
  • Developing personal evangelism opportunities and connecting people to FUMC Pearland relationally through intentional systems/strategies of radical hospitality.
  • Practicing the Biblical priority of a tithe, by contributing to God’s Kingdom work in the ministry of FUMC Pearland.
  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of FUMC Pearland Employee Handbook.

 

 Director Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the Church Senior Leadership Team and Church Leadership in creating and actualizing our vision for Youth Ministry.
  • Understand the expectations of this position/ministry area, and commit to work to achieve the goals and objectives with excellence.
  • Effectively administrate, manage, recruit, organize, and communicate the goals and objectives of our vision and mission for Youth Ministry. Commit to achieve the goals and objectives of this youth ministry.
  • Attend one of our Worship Services every week, and encourage youth to do the same.

 

  1. Programming
  • Be a visible presence and participant in all programming activities
  • Create, implement and nurture opportunities for youth to grow in their spiritual and intellectual understanding of Biblical principles through weekly Growth Groups
  • Create, implement and nurture opportunities for youth to grow in their spiritual and intellectual understanding of Biblical principles through weekly Youth Meetings such as UMYF
  • Create, implement and nurture opportunities for youth to grow in their spiritual lives through Special/Seasonal Events (Lakeview Summer Camp, District Events Etc)
  • Organize, plan and facilitate the confirmation year for eligible students
  • Acquire curriculum for programming as required
  • Work with our youth in developing a missional culture
    • Lead and facilitate FUMC Pearland’s participation in UMARMY, Middle School and Junior High Mission trips/events
  • Participate in FUMC Pearland Mission events/activities when they take place

 

  1. Recruitment
  • Continuously seek out youth within the church who are not active in any of our youth programming and connect with them.
  • Continuously seek out youth in the Community who are not yet part of our ministries and connect with.
    • Serve as Staff Liason for Young Life
    • Serve as Staff Liason with the FUMC Pearland Scouting Ministry
  • Recruit and develop volunteer coordinators to help in planning and presenting programming events and activities

 

  1. Administrative
  • Be an effective administrator, able to handle multiple functions and tasks simultaneously in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Be an above average communicator; communication with students, parents, and volunteers is critical to the success of the ministry.
  • Relational Ministry-Consistently make regular contact with youth (website, newsletter, phone, email, texts and personal visits); be a welcoming and inclusive presence at all student ministry events;
  • South District and/or Texas Annual Conference-Attend District Youth Leader Meetings, and actively pursue opportunities for our student ministry to interact with other District Churches and/or Conference activities and events. We expect our youth to be involved in District and Conference events (including but not limited to District Summer Camp, Conference Midwinter, UM Army, District UMYF, etc.)

 

  1. Workflow Management
  • Attend regularly scheduled Senior Leadership Team Meetings, Staff Meetings and Administrative Team Meetings.
  • Prepare scheduled management reports as needed or required
  • Communicate information and updates to Staff and to congregation as required/requested

Desired Skills

  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students required
  • Must pass background check

Salary

$50,000 – $55,000
