Job Summary

Description

Major Duties:

Oversees the life and growth of our ministry to students (7th– 12th grades).

Sunday mornings:

  • Recruits, oversees, and equips volunteers to teach Sunday School classes for youth.

Sunday Evenings:

  • Plans and oversees Youth Ministry (worship, teaching and activities).
  • Recruits, trains and equips volunteers to work with youth on Sunday nights.

Wednesdays:

  • Organize and facilitate Youth Small Groups.

Summer:

  • Coordinates Youth Mission Opportunities
  • Plans weekly Bible studies and activities
  • Plans annual general youth trip

Confirmation:

  • Plans and oversees the two (2) year confirmation process and program for 7th graders and up.
  • Coordinates with other pastoral staff on their participation and input into the program.
    • Recruits, trains, and equips mentors to work with youth through the confirmation process. Monitors progress with the mentors and youth to ensure that expectations and milestones are being met.

Special Events:

  • Plans for spiritual life retreats as needs and opportunities emerge.
  • Plans for special events for Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.

Other

  • Serves on the church Leadership Council.
  • Communicates with the Leadership Council and/or congregation on important program updates for assigned areas.
  • Continuously assessing the effectiveness of the various aspects of youth ministry.
  • Ensures that leaders have sufficient resources
  • Maintains required supplies for programs
  • Assists in planning worship and spiritual formation direction of assigned areas
  • Evaluates and develops leaders within the youth group and parents to train for current and future church leadership roles.
  • Mentors and counsels youth as required.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers to provide a quality experience for the youth.
  • Promotes and cultivates a personal, vibrant growing faith in Christ for all youth members
  • Attends activities at local schools to support youth.
  • Supervises and manages the Youth Intern(s).
  • Serves as the lead on Team 51 development and education.
  • Conducts program assessment to ensure that the sponsored youth events meet the desired objectives and work to improve the quality of programming.
  • Assists in planning worship and spiritual formation direction of assigned areas
  • Coordinates with the lead pastor and/or other staff members as appropriate on opportunities for improvement or new program opportunities.
  • Responsible for the budget preparation and compliance for the Youth Ministry.
  • Supports the overall annual PHUMC ministry objectives and identifies opportunities for new programs or improvements to existing programs or processes.
  • Performs other duties, tasks, or project participation as directed.

Required Competencies:

Education:  College degree required.

Special Training/Skills:   Excellent communication skills are required, as well as the ability to plan, evaluate, and execute programs that support the overall ministry objectives and programs of PHUMC.  The ability to relate with and motivate youth members, parents, and volunteers is critical to the success of the Youth Ministry of Parkway Heights United Methodist Church.  Previous experience in working with youth is highly desirable.  Flexibility and creativity are essential for effectiveness in youth ministry.

Physical Requirements: There is a need for mobility to engage with and participate in ongoing youth-specific programs within the church, which foster relationships that promote personal and spiritual growth.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate volunteers and/or lead discipleship and missional opportunities for youth. These include Sunday night, Wednesday night, and Sunday mornings.
  • Coordinate with the church staff regarding the church’s ministries.
  • Design and implement a program that helps to produce faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who consistently live out their faith in the world.
  • Build strong fellowship within the group.

Desired Skills

  • Develop and strengthen parental involvement in the ministry.
  • Ability to assist in the area of worship.
  • Cooperate with other youth groups in the area to build a sense of community.

Salary

$55,000-$70,000
